I can't remember, any longer, whether making a six-part series based on my bdsm book was my idea, or if someone suggested it to me. Probably several people did, since the idea is so obvious, and since I'm so obtuse that it would've taken several nudges before I caught on: make the book of the series, and the series of the book.
So, from today, Sunday 10 August 2008, I'm going to be blogging the making of the trailer for a six-part series on the cultural history of bdsm.
The goal of the trailer is to come up with a product that demonstrates that here is a topic with enough material to fill six half-hour episodes with fascinating material, offering TV, internet and DVD audiences the chance to learn some new in an entertaining way.
The topic is how bdsm has appeared in art, literature and other aspects of human culture, covering a range of some 21,000 years of history. The treatment is informative (most of the material will be new to most people) but light, occasionally with mildly erotic material. It's never heavily academic, nor is it sleazy. It should be suitable for broadcasting after 9.30 or 10.00 pm in most countries.
"The making of the trailer" blogs starts here.
